I just started watching the new Netflix produced series "House of Cards". It is a political drama with David Fincher as the producer (also director of first two episodes) and Kevin Spacey as the leading actor. All 13 episodes of the first season were made available on the same day so it is not traditional TV although it is made up of 50 minute episodes. Anyways, seeing such good acting/directing in a series is very rare so i highly recommend it. This has potential to be one of the greatest shows ever. And in case you didn't know Kevin Spacey is like a god amongst men

Everything's in the right place and nothing's wrong with this series, and It's amazing how something comprised mainly of soft-porn scenes that go in turn with 300-type muscle men clashes and fountains of blood can be this good. I guess it succeeds in being this good because it also has things that can be utterly surprising, like for example actors acting with belief while delivering lines such as: 'Cock on you for daring to doubt the gods', line which I couldn't imagine being delivered believably before I actually saw and heard it here.

It's good to remember this version of 'Mutiny on the Bounty' from time to time. We all know the story, and know it's based on actual facts: in 1789 sailors from a British navy ship mutinied while on Tahiti. In all other film versions it's clear that it's all about the glorious victory of the young versus the old, the free-spirited against the rigid. But not in this version. Only this version dares to if not exactly show then at least to hint at the actual consequences of the mutiny, and the final result of what seemed to be so nice, so good, namely, to show that once you lose discipline, you sail right towards your own destruction.

After the successful mutiny against the captain who stood for discipline, a mutiny in the name of youth, sexual and all other freedoms, sailors lost any sense of discipline and authority, which led them to numerous fights among themselves once they found their refuge at Pitcairn island. Final result was backstabbing and murder of practically all mutineers, with Fletcher Christian, the leader of the mutineers (played by Mel Gibson in this version) being among the first to get killed.

The legacy of the famous mutiny is even more horrifying: what once looked like young people's fight for sexual freedom against the rigid authority resulted directly into, first rape of local women on Pitcairn island, and then incest and cannibalism committed by few survivors and their numerous offspring.

All this has been hinted at in this version. Capt. William Bligh, as portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, a common-born soldier-type, clearly sees where his sailors' 'free spirit' will lead them, while Christian Fletcher, portrayed by Mel Gibson, is nothing but a hysterical nobleman unable to look little bit further beyond satisfying his immediate needs and desires. The story goes that this aspect should have been even more radical and clear if the film producers were not afraid to put Mel Gibson, then a rising star, into a role of a villain.

Just watched the new Evil Dead (2013) and it was epic. They turned Jane Levy unrecognizable. Two thumbs up

Russian count after October revolution goes off to a deserted island in the Pacific where he collects ship-wreck survivors, feeds them, lets them rest, then releases them on his island in order to then hunt them down like animals. It's a nice film about Bori.
